What happens when a team shares an experience without hierarchy?
Some time ago, a group from a well-known international sneaker brand joined us for a paddle surf experience in Mallorca.
They didn’t come looking for a “team building activity”.
They came looking for space.
In the water, something interesting happened:
– No job titles
– No departments
– No decision-makers and no juniors
Just people hanging out, laughing, falling, and trying again.
Before the activity, their office manager shared something with us privately:
the team had been under pressure for months, objectives were demanding, and relationships had become purely functional.
They were performing — but not connecting.
After the experience, once those goals were achieved, she reached out again.
Her reflection was simple and honest:
“This is exactly what the team needed.
Not another meeting. Not another incentive.
A shared moment where they could relate to each other without stress.”
She noticed:
More natural communication
Less tension in daily interactions
A stronger sense of trust between colleagues
And positive and funny anecdotes to remember and share.
Sometimes, that’s where teams remember how to work better together and go keep smashing it.
Stay tuned for more sea experiences!!
